This palace-style jar comes from the area of the West Magazines of the Palace at Knossos, although it had probably fallen from an upper storey since it was found in fragments. Evans noted the decreased naturalism compared to earlier octopus designs, notable the six arms and the fact that they were separated rather than intertwined.
